The 2013 Sunshine Coast Indoor Rowing Championships a great success

Held on 26th May 2013 at Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club.

Congratulations to all those who attended and made the event a great success.  Numbers competing were close to our best ever.

Thank you to Wendy Coghill and the committee for organizing and running the event.  Also thanks to Clinton Stanley (Down Syndrome swimming - multiple world record holder), Chelsea Gubecka (representing Australia at the 2013 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona) and Alyssa Bull (Ironwoman and representing Australia at the 2013 Junior World Championships in kayaking) for being ambassadors for the event as well as guest competitors.  Clinton's story was an inspiration to us all.

This year the competitor ages ranged from 7 years (A'zian Hardy) to 82 years (Gordon O'Neill).

Representations from other sports included Surf Life Saving, Swimming, Athletics, Kayaking, Rowing, Dragon Boat, Cycling, Triathlon, Gyms, and Outrigging.  Indoor rowing really is a great cross-training sport.

A new Australian Record goes to Tibby Kemp (shown at right) who beat her current record in the Women's 1000 metres 80-84 age group in a time of 5:02.3. Well done Tibby.
