The Sunshine Coast is to host the Queensland Indoor Rowing Championships in 2014
At a recent club meeting, it was agreed that the Sunshine Coast will host the first ever Queensland Championships.
Currently, the dates have been set as the 21st and 22nd of June 2014. There will be six events starting late morning on Saturday and finishing early afternoon on Sunday. The events will be the 300m, 500m, 1000m, 2000m, 1000m pairs, and a 4 x 500m relay. The pairs is designed to give these championships some uniqueness in Australia. We know it happens in other parts of the world but we don’t know of it happening elsewhere in Australia. The relay is fun to compete in and even more fun to watch.
All the ergs are linked by computer and you see the race projected onto a screen on the wall which makes it a great spectator sport. The race software handles the start, recording of times and averaging of times for the pairs. At this stage the venue will be the Alex Surf Club who are our main sponsors.
Our challenge is to grow the event over the next five years as this is how long we have initially committed to hosting the championships.
